MCC to extend president Sangakkara's term
MCC on Wednesday(06) announced its decision to recommend former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara for a second term as president due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Sri Lankan Legend was the first non-British President of the club after he assumed office on October 1 last year.

The disruption caused by the outbreak prompted the MCC committee to offer the 42-year-old to continue until September 30, 2021, a motion likely to be approved in its June 24 annual meeting.
The club also added that this was not the first time a president will serve beyond his one year tenure.
“Whilst Presidents of MCC only normally serve for a twelve-month period, it is not unprecedented for longer terms to be introduced to respond to extraordinary circumstances.” -MCC
Sangakkara will be the only 3rd person to serve as MCC president for more than a year. Previously during the two World Wars, Lord Hawke (1914-18) and Stanley Christopherson (1939-45) had this honour.
