CEB No More: Utility Established in 1969 Ends After 56 Years

⭕ The Ceylon Electricity Board was established under the CEB Act No. 17 of 1969 and operated Sri Lanka’s state electricity utility for about 56 years.

⭕ The Electricity Board ended operations at midnight March 8 after the repeal of the CEB Act, legally abolishing the Board as a corporate entity.

⭕ From March 9, electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and system operations move to six successor govement owed private companies formed under an extraordinary gazette by the Energy Minister.

⭕ Lanka Electricity Generation Lanka (Private) Limited takes over electricity generation functions previously handled by CEB.

⭕ National Transmission Network Service Provider (Private) Limited will manage the national electricity transmission network.

⭕ National System Operator (Private) Limited will oversee system control and grid operations.

⭕ Electricity Distribution Lanka (Private) Limited will handle electricity distribution services.

⭕ Employees Fund (Private) Limited manages employee-related financial obligations.

⭕ Energy Ventures Lanka (Private) Limited handles energy sector investment and venture activities.
