🇱🇰 Sri Lanka’s annual childbirths fell 36.2% from 2015 to 2025

⭕ Sri Lanka recorded 214,570 childbirths in 2025, down from 336,097 in 2015.

⭕ Between 2019 and 2025, annual childbirths fell by 104,440, or about 33%.

⭕ The government linked the decline to later and fewer marriages, increased separation and divorce, delayed family formation, and rising financial pressure from living, housing, education and childcare costs.
