🇱🇰 Cabinet Approves Purchase of 600 Deluxe AC Buses for Long-Distance Travel 🚍

⭕ Cabinet has approved the purchase of 600 deluxe air-conditioned buses for the Sri Lanka Transport Board.

⭕ The 2026 Budget originally allocated Rs. 14.4 billion to purchase 600 standard buses with 49 to 54 seats.

⭕ The Road Safety Plan 2025-26 introduced new minimum standards requiring deluxe air-conditioned buses for intercity and long-distance services.

⭕ In line with these standards, Cabinet approved replacing the originally planned standard buses with more comfortable deluxe air-conditioned models.

⭕ After introducing the Lanka Metro Transit programme to improve urban transport, the Ministry is now extending better service standards to intercity and long-distance travel.

⭕ It is refreshing to see the Government taking the initiative and pushing the transport industry in the right direction. Kudos to the Ministry of Transport and the Government for driving this meaningful change.
