Rumesh Tharanga 🇱🇰 takes world No. 1 spot in Javalin

⭕ Sri Lankan javelin sensation Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage has reached No. 1 in the men’s javelin throw world rankings, marking a historic achievement for Sri Lankan athletics.

⭕ Tharanga’s rise to the top follows a series of strong performances at international competitions.

⭕ Tharanga won the men’s javelin throw gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in 🇬🇧 Scotland with a throw of 89.75 metres winning Sri Lankas first gold in 20 years.

⭕ Following the victory, Tharanga gained 1,354 points to take the top position in the latest world rankings.

⭕ 🇩🇪 Germany’s Julian Weber dropped to 2nd place with 1,348 points. 🇬🇩 Grenada’s Anderson Peters remains third in the men’s javelin world rankings.

For generations, Sri Lanka has dreamed of an Olympic gold medal.
