🛍️ ❌Free “sili-sili” bags banned from Nov. 1 — mandatory charge on LDPE & LLDPE bags

⭕ From Nov. 1, traders in 🇱🇰 cannot give polythene “sili-sili” shopping bags free of charge.

⭕ Gazette requires a charge for LDPE (low-density polyethylene) and LLDPE (linear low-density polyethylene) bags.

⭕ Price must be shown clearly on customer bills.

⭕ This came to light during a Supreme Court hearing on a case filed by the Centre for Environmental Justice, which sought stronger plastic controls. The petition argued the government failed to enforce its March 2024 pledge to impose a bag levy. Deputy Solicitor General Avanthi Perera informed the court that the new rule will take effect on Nov. 1.
